After decades honing his comedic and musical skills, Ian Sainsbury finally exploded onto the UK comedy circuit in 2002. Within three years, Sir Paul McCartney had booked him for a private performance. Little wonder Agraman, one of Britain’s top comedy promoters, says, “Ian Sainsbury is fantastic in the same way as Bill Bailey is. He’s my tip for the top.”
Ian’s unique brand of musical comedy has helped him leap up the comedy ladder and play all the top London clubs including The Comedy Store, Comedy Café, Bearcat, Jongleurs, The Comedy Tree, Up The Creek, Ha Bloody Ha, Hampstead Comedy Club, Brixton Comedy Club and Downstairs at the Kings Head. Ian is also delighting audiences around the rest of the UK, performing at such prestigious clubs as Hyena Café in Newcastle, Buzz Club in Manchester, The Stand in Edinburgh and Glasgow and The Laughterhouse in Liverpool. In summer 2005 he is supporting Paul Zerdin in his Blackpool show.
Ian made his first forays into TV last year, performing on Holland’s most popular comedy and chat show, “Rayman is laat” as well as two ITV1 appearances on the “Dan and Dusty Show” in the UK. A recent corporate booking led to him performing alongside Jamelia and Will Young.
Ian gigged as a professional musician all over the world for many years and this extensive experience of performing in front of live audiences has resulted in a wonderfully relaxed and amiable style of delivery on the comedy stage. As well as being laugh-out-loud funny, his songs stand alone as well-crafted and melodic.
As a writer, Ian’s sketches have appeared in the prestigious Golden Rose of Montreux television festival.
